It’s ridiculous — people take time out of their lives to sit down at a presentation, only to have bedtime stories read to them. That’s about as much impact as you can get when you read every word on your slide.
Of course, on the other end of the spectrum are those presenters who have PowerPoints that are largely meaningless. Up pops the slide and all you see are a collection of boxes, words, arrows and blobs, with no idea of how those things are tied together. To make it worse, the presenter’s talk is just as disconnected and the resulting noise is about as useful as listening to a jackhammer.
Can it really be so difficult to run through a presentation a few times before standing up in front of a room full of people? People who are taking time out of their lives to listen, maybe even eagerly, to what you have to say?
Am I alone in this?
